'Mega Man Official Complete Works' Up For Preorder

And so it begins: Amazon is now taking preorders for Mega Man Official Complete Works for $26.57 (regularly priced at $39.99!), slated to ship October 14th, 2009.

"With over 100 video games to his name, Mega Man is one of the most recognizable icons of gaming. Mega Man: Official Complete Works showcases 20 years of artwork from this classic series and features character designs, box art, promo art, and loads of rarely seen art pieces. No Mega Man fan would dare miss out!"

Amazon lists the book at a whopping 200 pages, so it's safe to assume MMOCW contains all of the classic series assets from R20 (which took up roughly 2/3 of the original 336 paged book).

Wouldn't it be nice if Udon goes the extra mile and adds a few bits of MM9 art? I can dig that.

  1. How many pages was R20?

  2. 336 pages. Classic series stuff took up at least 2/3rds of the book.

  3. man, both books together better cost around the Japanese book (no more than $20) or else I'm not buying.

  4. Is anyone else a little worried that Udon might "americanize" this book, by removing/modifying bits of the story?

  5. ^Not in the least.

Zero OCW was a perfect translation of the Japanese source material, though s few bits and pieces were modified to fit the North American lore (primarily character names)

No worries. First off, what Protodude said about Zero OCW is right on the money, and second of all, I'm in charge of editing the American versions of the books for content and accuracy, and as a fan I want to make sure the source material's integrity is preserved from the Japanese version. I don't think we ("we" meaning UDON and I) let anyone down with Zero OCW, and we won't with Classic and X OCW either. It's been a blast to work and is coming along well. Look forward to it! :)

If you want something a little more specific to chew on, the kinds of Japan-to-US changes you can expect to see when these books come out are the same kinds you saw in Zero OCW (as Protodude said, character names, game terms, etc.). I and the guys in charge of the project at UDON are all very serious about preserving all of the original source material and not changing any of the text's meaning. :)

  8. Just be careful to not give enemies with same name different translations, like the Mettaurs had in the Zero OCW. ;)

  9. Also, you shouldn't expect Mega Man 9 stuff to be in there, unfortunately. It seems to be keeping strictly to what was in R20, nothing more (though not for lack of trying). Might be in something in the future, at least.

  10. Protodude,

    MaverickHunterAsh:

Thanks for the reassurance! Name changes are fine, it's just that I don't want to see the RM/MM community have a "dragon quest" incident.

  11. I recall the report earlier that they were splitting the book into two volumes, but I didn't see you mention that it was volume 1. Are they only using 200 pages of the original now?
